Janelle Barrera has performed at the national and international level as both a soloist and orchestral musician. She is the current Principal Flute of the Southern California Philharmonic and the Gospel Song Celebration Orchestra. Additionally, she has performed with the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfonica UANL, Monterrey N.L., California Chamber Orchestra, Orange County Wind Symphony, Aspen Festival Orchestra, Bloomington Pops Orchestra, La Primavera Symphony Orchestra, and the American Youth Symphony. Janelle has been under the baton of conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Meli Mehta, David Zinman, Michael Stern, Alexander Trager, Sergiu Comissiona, David Effron, and Maximiano Valdes.

Ms. Barrera has been the guest soloist with the Tacoma Youth Symphony Association’s Youth Symphony and Young Artists Orchestras, Tacoma Community College Symphony Orchestra, Everett Philharmonic, and the Southern California Philharmonic. In 2012, she was a finalist in the San Diego Flute Guild's Gold Artist Solo Competition and a member of the National Flute Association’s Professional Flute Choir in Las Vegas, NV.

As a chamber musician, Ms. Barrera has competed in the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and Coleman Chamber Music Competition. Janelle is a member of the ALLOY Wind Duo with her husband and saxophonist, James Barrera. In 2010, they were invited to be guest performers at the International Navy Band Symposium in Fairfax,VA. The ALLOY Wind Duo has helped commission several works for flute and saxophone.

Ms. Barrera's most recent performances include at the Los Angeles Flute Guild's 2014 Flute Festival, San Diego Flute Guild's Summer Flute Camp, and San Francisco Flute Society's Flutes by the Sea Master Class.
